This Hibiscus Rose Body Butter is has a fun twist on a traditional moisturizer, colored pink to brighten things up! This recipe is really simple and easy to whip up in just a few minutes! With moisturizing coconut oil and almond oil for sensitive skin, it makes a great face or body lotion. With the coconut oil, it will be a little harder than lotion, but still has the same benefits! Just start by gathering up all of your ingredients: coconut oil, almond oil, dried hibiscus, and rose essential oil!
Begin by scooping out your coconut oil, almond oil, and essential oil into a small bowl (the full recipe is at the end of the post!). You won't have to melt the coconut oil so don't worry about it if it is hard. If you can't find almond oil in bulk near you, you can substitute jojoba oil, olive oil, or any other liquid oil instead. If you put in olive oil or avocado oil, just remember that it will add a little green tinge so you'll have to increase the amount of hibiscus dye!
At the same time, set the dried hibiscus in a small amount of hot water to begin steeping. As it sits, it will darken in color and become a deep red. The longer you let it sit, the stronger the color will become. You will only need a spoonful or two so don't add too much water.
Strain out the hibiscus after it has steeped for several minutes and scoop the dye into your other bowl with the coconut mixture. Whip! Vigorously! As you mix it up the hibiscus will dye the oils a nice pink color. If you accidentally heated up the coconut oil before hand, you'll notice that the hibiscus water doesn't incorporate and is just in tiny droplets. By mixing it with the hard coconut oil, you are able to incorporate the color without it separating.
The longer you whip the mixture the lighter it will be once it sets up! If you really want a whipped body butter, use an electric beater for several minutes until it starts to puff up. Once fully whipped or mixed, place it in a small container and enjoy! Keep the body butter out of the fridge so it stays loose and soft.
Hibiscus Rose Body Butter
1. Heat a small amount of water in a kettle and pour into a bowl. Place a scoop of dried hibiscus in the water to steep.
2. Scoop hard coconut oil, almond oil, and essential oil into a separate bowl.
3. After several minutes of letting the hibiscus steep, strain out the herbs and place a small spoonful of the colored water in with the coconut oil mixture.
4. Using a fork, begin to mix the ingredients all together vigorously. Continue this for several minutes until all clumps have been worked out and the mixture is a light texture. If you are making a large batch, you can use an electric mixture to make sure the hibiscus water incorporates and the body butter fluffs up.
5. Continue adding hibiscus water until the desired color is reached.
6. Scoop the finished body butter into a jar and let set up at room temperature. Enjoy!
